I am not sure if what I am about to describe is your problem but here goes.
About two months ago, I was having trouble from a standing stop, (i.e. red light). When I would hit the gas, the rpm's would rev up but the car would not move accordingly and then about 1.5 seconds later, BAM, it would lurch forward.
I could also feel hard downshifts when coming off the freeway and coming to a full stop. Unfortunately for me, this ended up as a rebuilt auto trans.
Sorry if this wasn't much help but I thought if what you were describing was close to my experience then you could go from there.
