ABS V70-XC70

My ABS/Tracs light keeps coming on in my 1999 V70 XC. I know there are sensors on each of the four wheels and an ABS box (mod) somewhere in the car. Do I need software to replace the main box? I made the mistake of attempting an ETC (electronic throttle body) repair myself only to find I needed software only the dealer had). Anyone have any idea?
