I would definitely go for a turbo if not a 5 speed. My '93 850 with 170 HP is a major disgrace. Try drive one up hill (10 to 15 degree, incline, I think) with three passengers. You would want to jog.

I am keeping mine since completing all the major and minor maintenance. I drive gently not putting much pressure on the automatic transmission.

I would look around for a turbo for that price. However considering dealer warranty, you may have to get that price from private owners. Someone on this site got a '94 850 turbo for $4k, I think it had 140k miles.

I also Agree with Rob about service record. Dealer prices are always high, might as well make sure all main bugs (test AC thoroughly, common evaporator failure cost $1200 and definitely, definitely the rear main seal $600 - $900)
