Auto Transmission - Clearing Codes 850 1995

Thanks for your response.

The transmission warning light no longer comes on.

Curiously, with the old PNP switch, whenever the transmission warning light would blink, I had to go through the code clearing procedure as much as 5 times to reset the light and restore the transmission to "normal operation". Even then the two codes would remain - so I was wondering if codes are recorded on every occurrence and if I need to clear a backlog of accumulated codes - this seems a bit unlikely to me but I thought I would put forward the idea.

What does CEL stand for ?
