Hi Daniel
When the faulty pnp switch was in place, the light would go out after I had carried out the code clearing procedure, using the module on the front RHS of the engine bay ( I assume 1995 USA 850s are the same - I am in Australia):
Connect flying lead into A module socket 1
turn on ignition
press button to display first code (313)
press button to display second code (322)
press button to display first code
press and hold button for minimum 10 seconds
the red LED lights up for about 5 seconds
when the LED goes out press and hold the button for minimum 10 seconds
the red LED lights up for 5 seconds
when the red LED goes out, turn off ignition
turn on ignition and check for transmission light flashing
if flashing repeat the above until it stops flashing.
Normally the above procedure will clear the codes but fore some reason they are not going away even when the transmission light stops flashing
Of course, once I replaced the pnp switch the flashing stopped of its own accord but for some reason the codes are still in memory
Hope this helps
BTW - I kept the pnp switch going for about 3 years after the flashing light first started, by clearing codes and ratchet cleaning once or twice a year in winter, but in the last 6 months it got progressively worse, to the point that this happened every morning. Bear in mind that Sydney does not get very cold in winter, but when I went to a cold place for holidays ( 0C = 32F overnight) it really played up - I know there's much colder places in the USA
