850 Oil consumption 850

I have a 1994 Volvo 850 turbo wagon with 200,000 kilometres on it. It is leaking oil so badly that the rear window gets covered with a fine film oil. It is leaking somewhere from the rear of the engine. I was told when I bought the car the oil trap was cleaned up. But since I put synthetic oil in it the leak is worse. Also, I have noisy lifters. Is there anyway to check to see if the oil trap is not clogged without paying to get it cleaned again? Would the blocked oil trap cause the oil leak? Would this cause the noisy lifters?
