A clanking noise when hitting bunps with wheels turned can also be caused by a hydraulic pressure surge in power steering system. 99 and later got a P/S hose that has an orifice in it.
The orifice can be easily installed in 98's.
The sway bar links mentioned by someone else should be eliminated as cause before you pursue this remedy.
