I have just under 100k miles on mine, I go through about 1 qt every 1500-2000 miles. Unless you want to go through the effort of replacing your head gasket, just buy it in cases. Also be sure to give it an Italian tune up every month or two - put it in 1 or 2 gear, and run through town at about 5 or 6k rpm to burn any deposits that have built up on your valves.
