Right channel distortion in SC816 radio S70

My 98 S70 with a genuine Volvo SC816 radio has a garbled sound coming from the right speakers at any volume setting. It's not the speakers (substituted those).

Question is, has anyone encountered this from an SC816 and what is the solution? Can the radio be repaired? Will a Volvo dealer send the radio out for repair or sell me a new one?

What should I do?

Thanks
