1998 V70 AWD inspection

I can tell you as an owner of a 1998 V70 (not a tech)it is a great car but be careful of issues with vibration in the drivetrain. I bought my 98 new and it had a vibration the dealer could not fix after replacing the drive shafts and finally the transmission. It is very strange because when I had new tires on the car it got better but didn't go away. (The V rated Michelin tires seemed to be much better than the H rated Michelins I ran and they are lasting far longer than the old h rated set.) I also had the vibration show up at a different speed than it does now after the transmission was replaced (it now comes on at 60-65 mph) so go figure. My guess is the AWD systems are extremely sensitive to things like tires that are perfectly matched and if the factory didn't make the unibody or subframe to precise specifiactions the car will exhibit this type of vibration. You can find other posts on teh web about the vibration issue. You will also give up 2-4 miles per gallon in fuel economy with the AWD.
