transmission and no start problem 850

The problem is your PNP switch - I have been putting up with exactly the same problem with my 94 850 wagon for over a year and still haven't gotten the chance to replace the PNP switch . For the no start symptom you can also try slowly moving the gear shift knob slightly between Park and Reverse or between neutral and reverse or neutral and Drive all while holding the key in the start position (not easy but better than hot-wiring) - the engine will turn over and start when it makes contact. You will find the situation gets worse with colder weather and if it hasn't already, the trannny will start going into limp home mode (flashing up arrow) and wil set a code 313 in A1. To clear the limp home mode try turning the ignition switch to the run position and then off again and after several tries the flashing up arrow will go away.
