I have used the 6-pin cables from '92 forward interchangeably, on CR 814 and SC 901, with Volvo amps from '89 up through the '90s, and found that the pin-outs are the same functionally ( not on the 2001+ units, though). For what it's worth, the piin-outs on the separate 6-pin cables from '89 on with the separate volvo 4 x amps give the same results as the pre-89 volvo amps with the built-in 6-pin cables.
Some of the posts on the pin-outs refer to the common speaker ground lead on the 6-pin cable being grounded to the shield; I have not found this to be the case, although the chassis-to-chassis ground is through the shield.
Double-check everything, including your perceptions, at multiple stages, bearing in mind that the pin numbering on a given post may be arbitrary, and that the male and female connections are mirror images of one another, and what you see at the back of a connector is the mirror image of the face of the same connector.
According to a posting of 11/23/00 relating to the 850 amp [which should be the same for this purpose]:
"If you look at the male connector with the 'keyhole' tab at 12:00, then pin 1 at 11:00 is front left speaker (+), pin 2 is front right speaker (+), pin 4 is common speaker ground...pin 5 at 1:00 is left rear speaker (+). The center pin is a remote turn on lead to the amp."
Post your findings and any tech tips from your project for the next guy. Hasve fun!
