Rear Defroster 850 1994

Hi all,
A couple of days ago my rear defroster started blowing its' fuse after about 2 seconds of being switched on. I've noticed a small break/burn-out in the grid, but I'm quite sure that's been that way for years. Also, and I don't know if this is related, but the alarm LED/ECC sensor light on the dash stopped lighting up at about the same time. I've replaced the Defrost switch, but the fuse is still blowing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
