SC-816 sudden onset of poor AM radio reception

FM is fine, CD is fine, cassette is fine. Sorry if this has been addressed before but the search function on Brickboard isn't searching right now.

I've come up with some Brickboard hits, strangely enough using the Volvospeed search function (!) but they're just links to Brickboard, I can't find the actual threads.

Pre-amp? Any options besides handing $236 + tax for an exchange SC-816 to the parts guy at my dealer? (Or not listening to AM ... unfortunately I'm addicted to Bloomberg and the traffic reports!)

Any experience with used units? The rest of the car has 130,000 on it, and it may be put out to pasture next spring.

Last week it was the ABS controller, now this. If I didn't know any better I'd say my Volvo had noticed that shiny new Acura in the driveway and it was jealous!
