noisy ride-groaning, vibration at speed 98XC, more pronounce when veer to the left. V70-XC70 1998

OUR 98 XC AWD Now startedto groan - like wheel noise up front. Does it all the time at about 20 mph +. At 60K this car shouldn't act up. All the fluids are good and had new tires (conti's) this summer.
I't sort of goes away while driving on a left ramp turn at speed. Very pronounced at left turning at speed & at all gear ranges. Also while coasting (engine off). Not noticable at slow speed. I looked all around underneath!
Any help ? - hope its' not the bevel gear I've been hearing about?
Is the bevel gear the "axle looking housing to the passengers side of the transmision (up front)?
