there is a screw in a hose (what the hell) 850 1996

Okay here we go,
I bought my volvo 1996 850 GLT about one year ago. The engine started making a vacuum leak sounding noise when it is idoling and when it is decelerating. So being the DIY type of person I am, I looked under the hood and located the noise. There is a hose of some sort that has a screw in the end (it is a rusty old screw). The tubing is right under were the main radiator hose goes into the engine block on the passenger side of the block. The hose is coming off a T joint with the same type of tubing. One of the tubes goes back twords the side of the block and the other goes down to a place I cannot see. Oh, and when I push on the line with the screw the sound changes in pitch. If anyone could help me out it would be great. Thanks,
Ryan
