80/100 watt headlamps 850

I recently was told that using 80/100 watt headlamps in these cars arent a good idea. Ive been using them since I bought the car in March of this year. As well Ive used them in just about every car Ive owned in the last 5 years. So far, I havent had any melted wiring, or headlamp houseing. The only thing Ive noticed is I got a rock chip on the headlight, and when I turned them on, the lens cracked. I have very bad night vision, and the higher wattage allows me to see at night much better than regular wattaged headlights. If this is going to do damage to my car, what other options should I be looking at, or will I be OK using these after all.

Thanks in advance!!

Tony!!
