manual trans- revs stay high between shifts 850 1994

Anyone with a manual trans having the same problem as I am!?!? between shifts, the revs stay where they were for about 2 seconds then slowly drop. So if you are running 4K rpm, push in the clutch, revs hang there for what seems forever, then sloowwwly drop down. My Volvo mechanic says he has noticed this on other stick 850's and his questions to the local Volvo dealer were met with glazed eye stares.
