Can Electronic Climate Control Rear Sockets or Damper Motor Wires Get mixed Up? 850 1993

I've had my 93 850 GLT for a couple months now. But the ECU is acting very strangely. The right side heating turns off a about two-three minutes (when the REC/AC lights start flashing. After removing the glove box, I noticed the REC switch has no affect on the recirculation damper motor. That motor does, however, activate when the middle dial it turned to the 3 o'clock position.

And, the passenger side temperature dial (when set hot, all the way up) activates the floor/defrost damper motor. Also, the REC switch seems to activate something behind the ECU, probably the passenger side temperature damper motor, as it seems to affect the air temperature before it cuts out.

The previous owner had an evaporator installed earlier this summer. It is possible the mechanic got the wires plugged into the wrong places?

Do I need special tools to remove the radio/casstte?

Thanks if anybody can offer advice.
