Hi ,
Our 98 XC also had this code earlier in the Year. We Replaced the valve and Airpump. Search for the Air pump, 410 code, or secondary air injection system on these sites and there should be a lot. Your Air pump usually starts right away at startup and you can thus verify it works. It sits ~ about under the battery tray. (an obvious underdesigned part, if I should say, since almost everyone has problems!) I drilled small holes in the bottom of my volute case to minimize water collection here!
