Shock/Strut replacement or Sway Bar replacement 850 1994

I have recently noticed that my 94 850 has not been driving as smooth as it has in the past. After consulting with a couple of different sources, I can either 1) replace all of the shocks/struts at a tune of $1100 or 2)replace the sway bar arms for about $400. I have not been able to take it to the shop and have them put it up on the rack, but I am planning on doing that over the next couple of days.

My car is almost 10 years old and I have really taken good care of it to this point. Most of the miles are on the highway, but some of them are city miles.

How can I tell what I is going on with my car and what the proper fix is? How long can I expect to get out of the shocks/struts on my car?
