Slow coolant leak 850 1996

I have a 1996 850 Turbo with 99K miles and I have noticed a slow coolant leak that I suspect is due to a leaking heater core. The cabin of the car has a "sweet" smell but the windows don't steam up and the heater works great. There appears to be no sign of coolant under the car. It seems to lose about half a quart a month.

My question is this, if I can live with the smell is it O.K. to simply replace the coolant as needed? Money is a little tight right now and in the last six months I have replaced the ABS module and the radiator.

I would appreciate any feed back. Thanks!
