850 engine identification #? 850

On my 1994 850 wagon, non-turbo, 5 speed manual, I have a third designation right under the Artikel and S/N barcode. It is B5254S which, I believe stands for 5 cylinder, 2.5 liter, 20 (4 times 5) valves. Not sure what the S stands for but it may be signify that the engine is non-turbo or standard...

now unless the timing belt cover has been changed, those 3 numbers will give you an idea of the engine's year of production. i guess someone on the list has a lookup table or you may ask the parts shop of a volvo dealership.
