Disappointed in your response 850 1995

" I happen to be a woman that can drive better than most of the men and women on the road."

Careful... Shall we qualify this in some way? What does 'better' mean -- technical skill? integrity of machinery and mastery thereof? knowledge of limits? experience? wisdom? good judgment? maturity? And once we've gotten our handle on what 'drive better' means, maybe we should quantify it somehow? You have any ideas on statistically verifiable measures?

"My father started racing when I was 3. He was a mechanic and built his own cars in our garage, so I have always been around cars and speed, cars that handle well and are quick."

OK... Well, my father was an undertaker (no joke), and I was often around dead bodies. That doesn't make me a better embalmer than the average Brickboard contributor, let alone someone who can make a corpse come alive again...

"I learned how to drive in a 5 speed and cannot stand automatics"

Oh...so driving a 5 speed and having an aversion to automatics is what makes one a better driver? Maybe we're on to something...

"I bet you drive an automatic don't you?"

That must be it -- it's the automatic/manual which is the 'better driver' criterion?

"My first car in 1985 was a 77 rabbit that my Dad had totally worked, converted from 4speed to 5spd w/ highway 5th, lightened flywheel, bilsteins and lowered springs, 15" momo's."

Back to Dad again. And how much of this work did daughter do? Or did Dad do it all? And, even if you did it (partially/all), does *that* make you a better driver?

"I do not lie when I say I could take a Mustang 5.0 off the line through 2nd gear, in my little 4 banger."

Oh, so it's not preference for a 5 speed which makes one a better driver, it's acceleration through 2nd gear? Oooph. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this was all done on a closed track or strip, wearing helmets, with timing gates and/or fifth wheels and/or GPS analysis? or is it anecdotal...based upon street racing? If so, your being a 'better driver' argument just went out the window.

"I know how to double clutch (do you even know what that is?), and left foot brake."

More 'better driver' criteria? By the way, let me know how you were successful in heel/toe-ing a 77 Rabbit with accelerator peddle four inches off the floor. I could never quite get in in my '80 Rabbit with the Weber.

"There are plenty of men that suck at driving"

Oooph -- arguing against sexism by utilizing sexist remarks. Remember, sexism is symmetrical.

, "in fact it appears to me that most people suck at driving,"

*Finally* -- something we can unite on.

"many should not even be allowed to drive."

Particularly those immature enough to run Mustangs in their Rabbits (presumeably on public streets).

You know, I'm absolutely with you 100% in reacting to 'Pigg's' outrageous remarks. Totally insensitive and irrational. But please don't shoot yourself in the foot (makes left-foot braking difficult).
