850 exhaust, emissions problems 850 1993

Jay,
Why do you think the idle air control valve is stuck? I don't understand.

Sencondly, I assume that the car had the exhaust leak before you broke off the flange on the manifold while you were replacing the doughnut gasket. The leak is very hard to diagnose. The leak is coming from where all the 5 header pipes join into one. A mechanic from a shop that does'nt deal with just volvo's would have a hard time diagnosing exactly where the leak is coming from. The leak seems to come from the doughnut gasket but, in fact, it's from the manifold. The mechanic would have a hard time telling you he's sure it's leaking from the $300-400? manifold.

Pete

If you can't afford to take your car to the dealer for maintenance, then sell it. Don't cry when the local shops can't deal with the technology anymore and you're tired of guessing at what parts to throw at it.
