850 Headlight adjustment 850 1997

I changed bulbs in my 97 850R headlights, and the reflector was totally loose in the drivers side. I took the lens loose-3 clips on top, one on side, and removed the corner light with the spring loop thing-couldn't get the bottom of the lens loose because the bumper facia extends up a bit too far. I wiggled the reflector back into position, re-assembeld and all looked firm and fine, but now I can't adjust that light up or down. The wheel thing turns, but the light dosen't move. On previous posts I found mention of a ball and socket arrangement on the rear of the reflector. Can I get things lined back up and connected without removing the entire assembly-which may require removal of the bumper facia it seems? My driver's side light right now is keeping a close look out for squirrels in the trees. Help!
