I think this is noise, because .... to begin with Volvo uses a timing BELT which must be replaced at set mileage intervals, religiously.

BMW uses a timing CHAIN which lasts as long as the rest of the BMW motor.

Also, I've never replaced an alternator on any eurocar I've owned. Also, 1 (one) radiator, and that was as a result of hitting a semi-trailer tire chunk. (And also a bunch of that hyper-expensive plastic stuff like the intercooler that's under the front bumper and not on the list.)

Also, most of the problems I've had - and there have been a boatload - are components not on the Consumer Guide list.

No, I don't think these are accurate prices. I replaced my shocks with HD Bilsteins and that number is waaaay high. Brakes are also much much less if you do them yourself without replacing the rotors.

FWIW the 100,000 mile V70 extended warranty cost me about what BMW was asking for the 100,000 mile extended warranty on the 540i which is a V8 with 3 more cylinders than the Volvo. So I doubt the Volvo is that much "cheaper" to run.
