the old crackling, half-a-stereo problem: a remedy 850

Having recently pulled a stereo from my '93 850 (tape player broken, no FM), I went to the junkyard and bought another from a 94 for $75. To my dismay I got home, and the new-old stereo I just bought was deficient as well. This time, whenever I'd change the volume it'd crackle loudly and the right speaker wouldn't put out sound unless I hit the volume knob. So I did some reading on the Usenet newsgroups and discovered with a little contact cleaner ($9.99 from Radio Shack) underneath the knob - which pulls off - and inside the unit itself on the "pot" where it goes in, works wonders! I sprayed the stuff in there, twisted the volume up and down for about two minutes, and the crackle was gone. Like new! Thought 850 owners would appreciate this one. Maybe it's been posted before, but it's worth throwin it out there again! Hey, if anyone here needs a front face plate to the stereo I gave up - it's like new looking with sc-810 written on the front just shoot me a reply and I can get it to you gratis!
