Commiserations. Lousy service is present at every level, and the more complicated the cars get the more time needs to be invested to train people to diagnose the problems instead of just replace stuff at $60 an hour. It has gotten to the point where I would rather just "replace stuff" and best guess it than mess with the dealer. Most of the things would have to be replaced anyway and unless you honk up the installation you're just improving the reliability, even if in a blind sort of way. I too may have purchased my last Volvo, as in my view, since 1985, they have lost the functionality that attracted me in the first place and the desire to be "upscale" has unnecessarily complicated what was a very serviceable automobile. I have driven the S60 and S80 and while they are very nice autos, you can't see out of them for squat. The basic design of a safe automobile has been compromised in the name of style. Might as well have anything else. I did as a matter of fact put my money where my convictions are and just purchased a 1993 MB 400E. Whatever quirks it may have, it is certainly a thoughtfully engineered car. Imagine Volvo putting the oil filter at the TOP of the engine where you could reach it without cursing the access. Maybe they will come to there senses. I can afford a new one, I just can't overcome the design slide.
