V40 Engine Stalling S40-V40 1998

Has anyone had the following engine problem with a V40 when acellerating the car dies off then picks up then might die off again. Could this be a problem with the fuel pump?
We are stuck in the middle of N.S.W. Australia and are having problems getting any answers.Many thanks
