can't decide 850

I believe that this has less to do with the manufacturers' records, maintenance costs, etc.
There are two issues. One, how much do you have to spend? The second, What has been your luck with cars? If this is your first car, take all steps to make sure the car you want is in the best shape it can be. Proper maintenance by the previous owner is the key to a good car. If the previous owner kept it for a while, it's not going to be a lemon. As we all know, new cars can prove to be just as disastrous as used cars.

If you have owned used cars, which have they been? How have they held up? Do you feel like a car owner with naturally bad "carma?" If not, buy a solid Volvo and enjoy driving it. When you need to drop $300 here or there, do it and keep driving.

I, knock on wood, have owned five cars. I won't buy American or Japanese. I've owned a Saab 900, a Volkswagen Golf, 2 Volvo 240s and an 850 wagon. These cars are on Consumer Reports shit list. Not one gave me any problems. In fact, I turned a profit on one of my 240s.

So I'm going to be happily buying european for the rest of my life. If you are nervous or have reservations, don't do it. Get a nice '98 Camry for $5K and sit back and relax.
