starting problem V70-XC70 1998

I have a different starting problem with my '98 V70 AWD. It has never actually failed to start although it is usually slow and requires the car to turn over several times before it catches. Earlier this year I took it into a dealer and they told me it was a leaky gasket on one of the fuel pumps. The part was only $15 but it required removing the rear axle, the exhaust, and the gas tank to access. I waited and took it to another mechanic who told me there was no sign of a leaky gasket. Still, the problem remains.
The symtoms are that the car starts slowly, the problem seems to be temperature dependent (the hotter it is, the slower it starts).
Anyone have advice on this?
