starting problem V70-XC70 2000

No one likes to determine a problem by swapping parts - but - sometimes this is your only option.

Our '90 744 TI has had a starting problem, only three times in the last year. Each time my dealer checked the car for free, once keeping it for three weeks, starting it several times a day.

The third time, I had them change the RPM sensor, a likely candidate for the problem. I had a starting problem 5 years ago, right after I purchased the car from a small Volvo used car specialist. He had the RPM sensor changed to solve the problem. (I later found out that he had had a used one installed.)

The car has started flawlessly for the last 3 months. (fingers crossed)

I suggest that you confer with the best technician that the dealer has and consider replacing the component that is the most likely candidate to cause this problem. At least you will have made some prigress on the problem. Keep the swapped part in case it is not the culprit.

Consider that you may have more than 1 flakey component. It still may beat having your car towed, etc.
