another idea

Do what I did almost 4 yrs ago, get on a plane, have the seller pick you up at the airport and drive the car home.
My car was 1000 miles away, 2 hour flight and two full days of driving on a weekend staying 1 night overnight at a hotel but it was fun and I'd do it again.
I had plates previously transferred, insurance, a cell phone, Garmin eMap, lots of cds with player and AAA too.
Now that it's winter, if you're needing to be in northern states you really need to be sure that you avoid bad weather at all costs as driving in snow storms or icy roads is never fun.
