Battery problems 850 1997

I am a rank amateur at this but I should qualify as I own a 1997 850 T5 wagon. I have had the car sitting in my driveway for about a month over Christmas and decided that I should sell it. I went to turn it over and the battery was dead. Not surprising, due to the time, age and weather (it was cold here in Canada). I boosted, let it idle for 5 minutes and shut it down. Dead again. I boosted it, drove around the block for 10 minutes and shut it down. Dead again. Boosted it a third time, nothing. Went to a repair shop and bought a new battery. Installed it and now have lots of battery power, but the car will not turn over and I am getting no lights on the dashboard.

Any suggestions on how badly I just screwed up the car that I want to sell?

Thanks in advance.

PS. Please email responses to daniell@wtrs.com, as I would like to get this fixed ASAP. It is hard to sell a car that does not run.
