Keeping the 855t, need roof rack or bars. Which? 850 1995

The OEM load bars are Thule. We have them and a Thule roof rack
carrier. Biggest downside is you can get some water leaking
around the door seals in rain (one window leaks) and Volvo says
not to leave load bars on longer then 24 hours (I guess to keep the
door seals from taking a permanent "set" in a bent position).

We purchased the load bars with the car and the carrier from
SportsRack (they have a store 3 blocks from our house -- thats
the main reason for using SportsRack).

We find this a good solution since the majority of time we don't
need the additional space a minivan or SUV would provide. The
extra cargo space is just needed a couple times a year and so
this works well for us.

Note that the OEM wagon and sedan load bars are not interchangeable.
I mention that in case you buy them used. The wagon version has
a decal of a wagon (in profile) on the load bars under the locking
cover. I assume the sedan would have a sedan sticker on it. The
reason they do not intercahnge is the front pair of holes is slightly
farther back in the door frame on the wagon and the bar has to be a bit
shorter for the wagon to correctly place the load bar foot pad on that
plastic trim that runs across the edge of the roof (you'll notice the
roof narrows front to rear so the distance between the black trim
pieces is not uniform across its length).
