Technically yes, you should disconnect the battery and let the car sit for several minutes (say 15?) to be safe before removing the REM. Be sure to mark the locations of ALL relays and shunts first to avoid adding more diagnostic costs and other possible related hassles. At the dealer, be sure to tell them what you did so that you're not wasting a techs time trying to further diagnose electrical problems. Maybe you wouldn't BUT some people do and it's additional time, money spent for the customer as the labor time goes on.
