Hey yall. Ive had my '93 850 for a bit over a year. I never thought about it in the beginning because, hell, it was an old car, but the tranny was taking hard downshifts on kickdowns and upshifts to 4th sometimes on regular accelerating (to 3500 or so). Actually it took a while for me to connect 'hard shifts' with the shuddering occuring when changing gears. Not only does it shudder, but it seems to be horrible at selecting a gear. Maybe, this is normal but when I lay on the throttle a bit, it will downshift for a second then downshift again for a second then after a couple more, upshift for me. Usually, I havent changed the throttle any. Sometimes it feels like it slips too, almost like the power just falls through so I let off the gas and get on it again and its solid again.
All this has started bothering me lately because Ive heard all about the trans problems from this site and with 123670 on the odo (since last may.. I should probably fix that) I am worried about killing it. I dont have the money to fix it (junior in hs with a low paying summer job, I know, wrong car...) and would like to prolong its life. I checked the fluid today and the level is fine as well as the color (dark red); it didnt smell like burnt almonds.
Im hoping to take a bit of a road trip (600 miles both ways) this summer and want to avoid breaking down in the middle. Damn, Ill have to fix the a/c before that too.
Hard shifts-good fluid? Any replies are greatly appreciated.
