I TAKE MY 99 V70 XC TO INDEPENDANT DEALER - PROBLEM WITH ENGINE MISSING TYPICALLY UNDER 2500 RPM AS LOAD IS PLACED ON ENGINE - MOST FREQUENTLY GOING UP HILL AND EASY ACCELERATION FROM STOP. STARTS OK IN AM AND DOES NOT MISS UNTIL ENGINE AT TEMP - BEGINS TO SURGE RPMS AT IDLE BETWEEN 300 AND 700 RPM ONCE WARM AND STARTS THE MISSING ROUTINE - DIAGNOSTICS AT DEALER SHOWS MISS FIRE #3 CYL - DEALER MOVES #3 COIL TO #5 AND VICE VERSA - DRIVES CAR AND PROBLEM FOLLOWS TO #5 - REPLACES COIL (DID NOT TELL ME IF HE MOVED THE #5 COIL BACK TO #5 POSITION)- HE SAID IT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AFTER DRIVE TEST - MOVED THE CAR INTO SERVICE BAY - TURNED ENGINE OFF - CONNECTED EQUIPMENT TO FLUSH TRANSMISSIUON FLUID FOR GENERAL MAINTENANCE AS I HAD REQUESTED AND WHEN HE STARTED ENGINE IT SOUNDED AS HE SAID "LIKE A WASHING MACHINE" - TURNED TEH ENGINE OFF IMMEDDIATELY - TWO DAYS LATER HE CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED - HE IS NOT EVEN SURE IF THE ENGINE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE TOP OR BOTTOM OF ENGINE - I ASKED IF HE COULD HAVE THROWN THE TIMING OFF BY MOVING THE COIL AND HE SAID THAT ALL THE TIMING MARKS LINE UP. MY QUESTION IS : "IS IT POSSIBLE BY SWAPPING THE #3 AND #5 COIL THAT IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED BY HIM" - I HAVE NOT HEARD THE ENGINE SINCE THE SHOP IS NEARLY 50 MILES FROM ME AND THIS IS FROM WAHT HE TELLS ME OVER THE PHONE.
