Retrofit trip computer on a 2000 V-70? Advice, please V70-XC70

Can anybody out there please tell me whether I can retrofit a trip computer on a GLT 2000 V-70 without having my Volvo master's license? I'm thinking of buying one without, and wonder if I looked around the wrecking yards for a used trip computer, which years (including the 850 series) would fit the 2000 V-70, and whether it would take a rocket scientist to install and hook it up. I've worked a lot on my wife's 97 850 GLT wagon (which came with the trip computer already installed), but Volvo is making it increasingly more difficult for the DIY's to work on the later model cars in order to throw more work to the dealer service garages. I'm assuming this car is prewired for it and all you have to do is plug it into pre-existing leads. But I've discovered belatedly over the years it's never wise to presume anything about prewiring on a Volvo. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Dick
