Auto gear box....why you should change your fluid, and thanks (850) 850

firstly thanks to everyone for the info on changing your gearbox atf etc...

I did this yesterday (car is a 95 2.5 20 valve) and although the atf on the dipstick looked 'a bit brownish' (note it looked still red but with a brown tinge - perhaps - and didnt smell burnt) what came out was BLACK...ok in thin film it was red/brown but in a 1/2" ID clear pipe it was BLACK...

Car now has lost eh hard shifts, has quitemed down and also has lost its tendancy to understear while been driven round corners (?).

So..thanks to all, and if you have a 850 auto and havent changed the ATF DO IT NOW....BTW volvo dealer wanted £200 for the fluid (almost $400!) ..i went aftermarket and it cost me £50 ($100)...I broke the clip on the hose and the O ring i took off was hard as nails...so do get replacements before you start!
