New 850 or...... 850

The S40 doesn't have particularly impressive crash-test results or IIHS claims numbers. It's not Ford, the SV40 pre-dates the Ford buy-out. Rather, it's the diminutive size of the car.

I'd suggest the S70 if it must be a Volvo and it must be a sedan. To avoid a repeat performance I'd also suggest a set of snow tires on steel wheels. I'm very impressed by the Michelins so far.

Otherwise, the V70. If there's one thing Volvo does (or did) well, it's station wagons. Avoid the AWD versions like they're coated with ricin or anthrax, in fact avoid anything that might leak or break, like a moonroof or power seats or automatic climate control.
