Tire Size Options for 17' Titans? 850 1994

Original tire size for the Titans is 205/45/17, but with rough roads here in Richmond, I am thinking of going with a taller side wall to protect my rims (and avoid chattering teeth). I am considering going with 205/50/17 or 215/45/17 for my 1994 850 Turbo Wagon.

I realize I'll sacrifice performance/handling a bit, but as a daily driver, ride comfort and tread life is important to me.....

Has anyone tried these different sizes? Any suggestions? Will going with either size alternatives cause problems (rubbing, affect speedo, etc.)
