Blower motor has problems in 'auto' mode S70

I just had the thermostat changed because the car did not get up to operating tempature.

I am thinking it might be a bad relay or faulty blower motor. Unfortunately it will not produce an error code and fault the ECC. I just turn it to manual mode and then eventually flip it back to auto mode and it works like new.

It is just really really bugs me. It is a 98 with 143,000. I keep it in perfect condition, and just hate small problems.

Thanks.
