transmission fluid dipstick V70-XC70 1999

I just purchased a 99 GLT with 118,000 km, when I went to check the transmission
fluid the dipstick was very difficult to remove from the tube, is it is better to remove the air intake piece? to check fluid, and I also noticed now the dipstick (plastic) is loose from the tube, does it need to fit tight?

I plan to have the trans oil, coolant, brake fluid and power steering fluid replaced in the spring, the local dealers do not seem to charge a lot for these
services, but am I giving them an opportunity for a bunch of upsell, any advice
appreciated.
