Transmission Flush/Fluid--Can switching to synthetic hurt? 850

After seeing a few posts about flushing the trans, and reading up on how easy it is, I've decided to do it myself. Now, the question remains as to what type of fluid to use?

After I bought my car (95 850) with 65k on the clock, I decided to switch the oil to synthetic. Now, I know people argue about going from one to the other oil on both sided of the debate, but I can attest from first hand experience, that switching to synthetic seems to have caused a leak at me rear main seal. I now run dino, and the leak is gone.

So, the question is does synthetic ATF pose the same type of dilemma with a transmission? Or can one safely switch from one to the other with no ill consequences?

Also, what is the going rate in the US for synthetic/non ATF? Just trying to gauge what 12 quarts for a flush will ding me.
