How accurate is 'distance to empty'? 850

I have played with our '98 XC miles to go a few times. It seems pretty accurate until it gets down to say 60-70 miles. If you take the total of the miles driven so far on the tank, plus the miles to go on the computer it gives you a nice reference point. I find that this combined total miles drops steadily as the trip continues. IE: it is reducing the miles to go faster than we are actually covering miles on the road (keeping the same speed and same open highway). I think that when it says 60 miles to go, it will actually drop to zero miles to bo withi9n tehnext 30 or so miles. We have done this same test several times with the same results.
