Ignition switch hassles S70 1998

How do you separate the electrical side itself to change it? Trying to start the car by using a screw driver in the electrical part of the switch unfortunately did not work. I'm now wondering if my starter isn't defective and I'm also wondering what the precise symptoms are to a defective switch. Wouldn't want to change it and find the problem is elsewhere (I'm stuck in the bush far from any Volvo mechanic). Thanks in advance..........
