Front end creak and groans V70-XC70 2001

2001 V70 w/40K miles. Recently started creaking and groaning from front end at slow speeds over small road imperfections. I suspect the front sway bar end links. I had two sets go bad on my 97 850 and this sounds like the same. I can feel very little play in links when held and car moved up and down. Anyone experienced same and what was the cause? Thanks.
