Oh,

I was going to reply with confidence to this until I noticed you have a 98 V70 so, being new to the Volvo thing I have no idea if your engine is like mine. But if it is, the sensor is located in the water neck right under the thermostat housing. Should be a brass, 19mm nut - looking thing with two wires coming out of it. At least that's where mine's at.
